My work focuses on re-contextualization strategies that invoke the potential for new meaning in familiar images and objects. This appeals to my sense of creative freedom and allows me to pursue a varied body of work.
The common thread throughout my work is arrangement and its ability to tie juxtapositions together. The purpose of creating these juxtapositions is to provide a new context for discourse.
Activating engagement is the most important aspect of my work. This is because, I believe, only through successful engagement is the creative act complete.
My function as an artist is not to proclaim ownership of ideas or profess absolute revelations. I'd rather people ponder the limitless potential of our world and consider as Michel Foucault asks in his essay, What is an Author:
Under what conditions and through what forms can an entity like the subject appear in the order of discourse; what position does it occupy; what functions does it exhibit; and what rules does it follow in each type of discourse?
